New video update above ⬆️
Note: I tend to write more than I film — but a lot of readers have been asking me for short video “takes” that aren’t too long but are informative. So thought I would record on this news. I did a written update a couple of hours ago, but that analysis was limited to paid subscribers. This video is available to all.
I break down the Virginia Supreme Court decision that just blew up a major Democratic gerrymander — and why the ruling says a lot more than just what happens in one state. The bigger story is how partisan control of state supreme courts increasingly shapes redistricting fights, election law, and ultimately control of Congress.
I also connect it to California, where Republicans made constitutional arguments against Prop 50 last year, and the California Supreme Court wouldn’t even hear the case.
Plus: what this all could mean for the battle for the U.S. House in November, the nationwide politics of gerrymandering, and why rising gas prices tied to the Iran conflict could become a serious political problem for Republicans.
