Some R&R for Me - And Some Thoughts on the OCGOP’s Big Flag Day Dinner!
Heading to Greece for a family vacation, but fear not, this Substack will endure!
Seems appropriate to quote a well known Greek philosopher…"In politics we presume that everyone who knows how to get votes knows how to administer a city or a state". - Plato
So, just five weeks into this new endeavor, I’m heading out with my family on vacation!
Where are we going, you ask?
We’re off to the Greek Islands for two fun-filled, sunny weeks! It should be a lot of fun and a much-needed break for all of us!
But wait, we're now accustomed to receiving great content from you! Does that mean there will be nothing from ‘So, Does It Matter?’ while you are away?
Silly you. I am passionate (obsessive) about this project (if you couldn't tell), and although the volume of content will be lower, I plan to ensure you still receive something from this Substack every day without fail. You are that lucky!
Of course, the night before leaving I with hundreds of fellow conservatives…
The Republican Party of OC’s Annual Flag Day Gala Dinner
Every year this is the event to see and be seen at if you are an Orange County politico (on the right side of the aisle). The keynote address for the big event on Friday night was given by Ohio’s senior U.S. Senator Bernie Moreno (funny that he has the most seniority from that state, given that he was just elected in November). Moreno gave a great, fiery address, and really knocked it out of the party. (A shout-out to Assemblywoman Kate Sanchez for her intro!)
Earlier in the day the Senator recorded a quick video from “Ground Zero” up in Los Angeles… You can check that out here.
Each year someone get’s the OCGOP’s highest honor — the Thomas A. Fuentes Award (named for the long-time former Chairman of the Committee). No one was surprised that the award went to recently retired Chairman Fred Whitaker! Congratulations, my friend!
There were too many notables in the room to do a round robin here, without risking leaving someone out and getting myself in trouble. But I will say that the event was a resounding success, and the party raised well over a half-milliond dollars. Kudos to the new OCGOP Chairman Will O’Neill! Also, a shout-out to the hard working staff and volunteers who pulled off an amazing event!
I will close by saying that both of the GOP contenders for Governor, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco and Fox News host (on leave) Steve Hilton, were there working the room. My favorite candid photo from the night was Steve being mobbed by the ladies.
In closing, while my family is “flying the friendly skies” I hope you are all enjoying the coverage of the anti-Trump rallies. Nice to see everyone keeping it calm, cool and collected…
Finally, Mel Gibson has a message for his fellow Angelinos… (Click here to get to the short video!)
Bon voyage! Souvlaki incoming

Have a safe and enjoyable trip!
