With a mere $200 million investment of California taxpayer funds to hold a statewide special election, Democrats could get a significant boost in their efforts to take the House next year…
Amazing that this is even a consideration, considering CA budget woes as they exist today. If Newsom continues along this path, he will be setting himself up, once again relying on taxpayer dollars to do his dirty work. I guess he gets good national headlines for going up against Texas, but here in CA, we already have an independent redistricting commission.
While I agree that the independent redistricting commission is stacked with one-sided activists, some of whom are paid to testify, what else can we do to control the situation? Yes, we're bringing a knife to a gun fight, but what else do we have when Republican registration is 25.22%? Yes, we know that some of the 22.34% of NPP's are GOP, but we cannot harnass that energy unless they have their own "we're not gonna take it" uprising. I just don't see it happenning without a strong leader.

That independent redistricting commission is the problem. We are using a slingshot against an AK47.

Uh.....you might want to look at that commission's good works, not quite so independent as you seem to think.
I get your point - yes - but it's better than what the legislators would do if left to their own antics. For sure.
California is a one party State, how do you think it got that way, 25 years ago?
Those that fight monsters —-must be careful not to become monsters themselves.
