This Saturday feature, which is a labor of love for me, is packed with amazing content. It’s very popular. For those of you who subscribe ($70/year, $7/month), this column is a thank you for your support of my independent work. There are a couple of items above the paywall worth reading/watching. But that is the tip of the iceberg. SO MUCH more under the paywall.

THANK YOU for being part of this project and for putting a spotlight on California politics!

THREE COMPLIMENTARY CURATED LINKS FOR ALL READERS - ON THE CA BUDGET…

A Great Podcast (If I do say so…)

JON FLEISCHMAN JOINS BROESKE & MUSSON TO TALK ABOUT THE PRESIDENT’S SPEECH TO THE NATION

I joined the Broeske & Musson Show on KMJ to break down President Trump’s address to the nation and the documents released afterward. We discussed the major allegations, the political and legal implications, questions surrounding election integrity, and what the speech could mean for the SAVE Act, Congress, and voters. If you’re interested in where this issue may be headed, this conversation is worth a listen. Listen here.

CALIFORNIA’S LOCAL GOVERNMENTS WANT STATE TAXPAYERS TO PAY MORE, MORE, MORE

Steve Greenhut in Reason takes aim at California local governments that repeatedly look to Sacramento—and ultimately state taxpayers—to bail out their spending decisions. He explains how cities and counties continue pressing for more state money even as California faces its own fiscal pressures. Greenhut’s broader point is that shifting costs upward does not make them disappear; it simply spreads the burden to taxpayers statewide while weakening accountability for local officials.

HOW CALIFORNIA’S ‘GREEN’ PORT FEE RAISES COSTS FOR ALL OF AMERICA

In the California Post, Iulia Lupse makes the case that California’s Vessels At Berth rule functions as a nationwide climate tax by raising shipping costs that are ultimately passed on to consumers. Because California ports handle such a large share of U.S. imports, she says the state is effectively exporting the cost of its environmental policies. Lupse also contends that Congress could use the Congressional Review Act to overturn the federal waiver behind the rule.

Want More?

OK, this column is like an iceberg. You can see 10% of it above the water line. Below the paywall is SO MUCH MORE. I curate a BUNCH of articles, a great chart, a great video, a great long-form story, and much more. And what famous entertainer was born in this day in 1980?
