FlashReport Presents: So, Does It Matter? On CA Politics!

Jon’s Weekend Reading Recommendations! Articles, Charts, Videos & More… And, and I have an original column on racial policies in LAUSD…

I am perusing the web all week, and I write about some of the things I find. But I there is so much great stuff that I do not write about, but I collect for this Saturday column. Enjoy.

This Saturday feature, which is a labor of love for me, is packed with amazing content. It’s very popular. For those of you who subscribe ($70/year, $7/month), this column is a thank you for your support of my independent work. There are a couple of items above the paywall worth reading/watching. But that is the tip of the iceberg. SO MUCH more under the paywall.

THANK YOU for being part of this project and for putting a spotlight on California politics!

Reading/Watching Recommendations!

TWO COMPLIMENTARY CURATED LINKS FOR ALL READERS:

OK, this first piece isn’t really what I am reading, it’s what I wrote. Or in this case, what I co-wrote. I hope you enjoy it…

RACE, REMEDIES, AND THE CONSTITUTION: A DEBATE OVER LAUSD POLICY

This week I co-authored the following piece on the EdSource website with my friend and respected colleague Lance Christiansen of the California Policy Center. In it, we examine the constitutional and policy implications of LAUSD’s continued use of race-based programming decades after the desegregation era that originally gave rise to such measures. We argue that good intentions do not override equal-protection principles and that struggling students are better served through race-neutral policies that target measurable educational barriers. This debate is not about denying history — it is about ensuring today’s solutions align with constitutional limits and individual rights. Read the column right here.

DEPOSITION OF SCOTT PIKE, LOS ANGELES CITY FIREFIGHTER

This is really riveting to watch. Before the Palisades Fire started, there was another fire that took place in the same spot called the Lachman Fire. What this firefighter has to say about his experience there is really something else. Then, when you get to the 6-minute mark, it’s even more interesting.

Want More?

OK, this column is like an iceberg. You can see 10% of it above the water line. Below the paywall is SO MUCH MORE. I curate a BUNCH of articles, a great chart, a great video, a great long-form story, and much more. And what did Jacqueline Kennedy do on this date in 1962 that had never been done by a First Lady?
