Americans Are Losing Faith in Capitalism
According to the latest Gallup poll, capitalism is losing ground in the court of public opinion. Just 54 percent of Americans now view it positively—down from 60 percent in 2021. Among Democrats the reversal is stark: only 42 percent favor capitalism, while 66 percent favor socialism. Among younger Democrats, support plunges to just 31 percent—the first time Gallup has recorded socialism rated higher than capitalism.
These numbers aren’t just trivia. They mark a real shift in how Democratic voters see the economy—something party strategists can’t afford to shrug off.
