FlashReport Evolves: Introducing Its New Home on Substack as So, Does It Matter?
What began as a newsletter in 2001 comes full circle, combining FlashReport’s legacy with a modern, curated Substack experience
Dear FlashReport Readers:
I’m happy to share that the FlashReport Website on California Politics, which started as a newsletter in 2001 and became a website in 2006, has now joined with my Substack on California Politics: So Does It Matter?
www.flashreport.org is now www.sodoesitmatter.com
Since launching last April, “FlashReport Presents: So Does It Matter” has gained a large following and often appears on the Bestseller and Rising lists in U.S. Politics on Substack, which has over 30 million daily readers. You don’t need to sign up for Substack to read the site—you can keep reading just like you did with the FlashReport. Visit the main page to see the latest posts, or use the archive button to browse hundreds of past entries.
What we offer now is different from the old FlashReport, which aggregated news stories from across California on a single page. This time, you’ll get a more curated experience from me. Every weekday, I post twice, covering breaking news, political updates, issue toolkits, columns, and opinion pieces—mostly about California politics. We also post once each weekend day. As before, you’ll still receive your daily update.
So once again, click here to visit the main page. You’ll be asked whether you want to sign up for daily emails, and I recommend doing so. There’s also an optional premium level if you want extra features, but there’s no pressure to upgrade. I put up a sign-up option at the bottom of this post.
Until the end of the year, FlashReport.org will bring you to this page. After that, it will go straight to www.SoDoesItMatter.com.
I want to thank everyone who has been part of the FlashReport over the past 25 years, especially our editors: Nicholas Romero from the early days, Anton Hartmann, and a huge thank you to John Hrabe, who edited the news page almost every day for over 16 years—even while traveling to dozens of countries. So far, we’ve published more than 20,000 original columns and blog posts and shared news links for over 7,000 consecutive days.
Of course, a big word of appreciation to the dozens of California conservatives who at one point or another blogged for FlashReport, and we featured thousands of original columns. A big thank you to our regular Sunday (and then some) columnist for the last few years, Bruce Bialosky.
I also want to thank our advertisers—from the hundreds who helped launch FlashReport years ago, to those who supported us with ads every month or year.
I want to clarify that the FlashReport experience isn’t ending. It started as a newsletter before becoming a news aggregator, and now it’s a newsletter again—stronger than ever! There’s plenty for you to read and watch, and I’m adding more video content each week.
California remains the largest and most important state in the country. If you appreciate honest reporting, as I’ve provided for years, stay with us!
Jon
