Back From Vacation, Back In The Saddle - A Thank You, And A Reminder of our Publishing Schedule
This is a quick reminder of how things word around here! And a note of appreciation!
First and foremost, we now have well over 600 paid subscribers and many, many thousands of free subscribers. Thank you so much for being a part of this Substack Newsletter on California politics, where I feel like our slogan should be “Chronicling the Burning of Rome…”
We are closing in on almost 850 original items posted here since we launched in late April of last year! And with the general election closing in, there is a lot to cover over the coming months.
Get It All, and Support Our Efforts
I want to review our publication schedule, but first I want to make my pitch. I hope that you value what I do — which is to provide you with a sober, conservative perspective on politics and policy here in the Golden State. While I certainly have my point of view — I pride myself on calling balls and strikes in my analysis and takeaways.
Our paid subscribers get a lot of additional content that is not available for free. More analysis, more videos, more pointed political cartoons. So I just want to encourage you, if you are not one, to consider upgrading to a premium subscription. It’s not much - $7 a month or just $70 a year (which is around $5.80 a month. Not only do you get a lot of additional content, but you also support what I am doing, which allows me to spend more time doing it! In today’s political environment, if you want perspective like mine around, it’s appropriate to support it!
(By feedback, the two most popular benefits of being a paid subscriber are the “Worst Week in California Politics” — and our now-famous “What’s Jon Reading” Saturday email, which is a lot of curated content - things I find all week that I think would interest you. Articles, columns, charts, videos, podcasts, and more.)
Please consider a paid subscription today! And if you aren’t a subscriber at all yet, well hop on board, even at the free level!
Our Publication Schedule
First and foremost, to paraphrase Captain Barbosa from the Pirates of the Caribbean movie, this schedule is more of a guideline than a rule. Life gets in the way of this hobby at times, but generally this is how it goes.
Frequency
We produce content every day of the week. We promise something every day, aim for two things each weekday (usually one delivered at 6:30 a.m. and another around 1:00 pm), and once on each weekday, send early. Of course, whenever I get the opportunity, we will publish breaking news and/or analysis as well (the breaking news analysis is typically paywalled - so that “what” is free; my take on the “why” is not).
Content
Most of our content is my takeaways on current events in California politics. But as loyal readers know, I publish on history, ideology, philosophy, and more. Our regular features include a weekly Straight Talk Video Podcast (with some extra content with our guest for paid subscribers), a second video that is often a Substack Live (where you are tune-in and ask questions or make comments in real time), and our Winners & Losers of the Week In Politics (typically published Fridays, with the Worst Week Video attached, under the paywall). Other features that “pop up” include California Patriot Profiles (see the library here), Issue Tool Kits, and Hot Takes (when enough smaller items add up to a full column).
Feedback Welcome!
If you know me, you know I love feedback. Certainly on anything I write about. But if you have input on how to improve So, Does It Matter? please pass it along. You can do this easily three ways. If you are getting this via email, you can just hit reply. You can always email me: jon@sodoesitmatter.com. Or finally, you can hit this button below.
Thank You!
Finally, I will close this note the way I opened it - expressing my gratitude for your being on this crazy ride with me. Remember, sharing is caring! Just hit this button!
