3 Items & 1 Photo - Trump v Schiff (Again), CA Free Radio Podcast & More
A few different items of interest for your Wednesday afternoon!
THREE THINGS:
President Trump and Senator Schiff are at it again - anyone surprised?
I was a guest on this week’s National Review’s Radio Free California Podcast.
What if decay in California isn’t an accident? What if it is a known result of policies, yet those policies are implemented anyways? Some insight my friend Ed Ring.
And a photo (someone is turning in language for a new ballot measure!).
Let’s go…
Trump’s Latest Clash with His Obsessed Nemesis: “Shifty Schiff”
Trump accuses Senator Adam Schiff of mortgage fraud - the Senator’s fixation on the president fuels another predictable spat.
Few in Congress rival Senator Adam Schiff’s (D-CA) obsession with President Trump, a fixation that screams Trump Derangement Syndrome like no other. As the lead prosecutor in Trump’s first impeachment in 2020, Schiff pushed a Russia collusion narrative that fizzled without evidence. His relentless attacks—calling Trump’s policies “authoritarian” on X in 2024 and slamming his State of the Union earlier this year as “lies”—cement his role as Trump’s chief antagonist. Trump hasn’t held back, dubbing him “Shifty Schiff,” a “sleazebag” in 2019, and “scum” from the Oval Office.
So, to exactly no one’s surprise, another back-and-forth has erupted, and it merits coverage because it’s happening. As someone analyzing this with a tilt toward the president, I’m skeptical of the latest accusations’ veracity but yesterday Trump posted on Truth Social alleging Schiff committed “possible mortgage fraud” by misrepresenting a Maryland home as his primary residence from 2009 to 2020 for better mortgage rates.
Schiff fired back on X, calling it a “baseless attempt at political retribution” and also recording a four and a half minute response (that should have been 30 seconds, and spared us all).
Do I think it is likely that Schiff committed the fraud alleged by the President? No. Is it possible? I guess. My friend and longtime conservative leader Jim Lacy thinks the Los Angeles County Tax Assessor Jeff Prang should open up an investigation, and that if he is not willing to do so, that the District Attorney should do so. Well, don’t wait on Prang, who is part of the elite Democratic structure in Los Angeles. The former left-of-left West Hollywood City Councilmember as launched into countywide office with support from Rep. Maxine Waters and the Democratic Party. The D.A., Nathan Hochman, a Republican-turned-NPP, seems pretty moderate in temperament to want to take on a U.S. Senator. We’ll see.
Bottom line: Both Trump and Schiff will continue to go after each other, and both will trumpet their attacks to their respective bases. And we get to eat 🍿.
Must Listen Podcast- Featuring Insightful Analysis from.. ME!
The latest episode of National Review’s Radio Free California is out, and sitting in with regular host Will Swaim is yours truly, subbing for regular co-host David Bahnsen…
If you have the time, now or when you’re out on your big daily walk (you know you need to do that) — take a listen. It’s 90 minutes, but worth every moment of your time. In all seriousness we talk about Newsom’s 4 hour podcast appearance on the popular conservative Shawn Ryan show. I can’t recommend you listen to the four hours - some of us did. We also talk about the immigration show-downs in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, and a lot of talk about efforts by the California Legislative Black Caucus to pass legislation to offer reparations to the descendants of former slaves.
Here is a link to the podcast website, where you can play it, or they have links to all of your favorite podcasting apps. And to make it easier for those of you on iPhones, here’s the direct link to the show on the native Apple Podcasting App.
Ring: Progressive Policies Cause Moral and Functional Decay
Edward Ring’s American Greatness column today argues California’s progressive policies cause moral and functional decay, hidden behind equity and environmental rhetoric. He cites failing schools, rising crime, and budget deficits, driven by choices inflating living costs and stifling innovation. Ring highlights Highway 1’s closure from landslides, blamed on climate change, not neglect. He calls progressivism a “grift” benefiting special interests, eroding quality of life with neglected infrastructure like dying redwoods, labeling it a human and financial tragedy.

Senator Tony Strickland and Assemblyman Carl DeMaio announce the filing of language for a VOTER ID initiative. This is the first step towards ultimately gathering signatures to hopefully see this on our ballots next November. You can be sure I will be writing plenty on this between now and then! Hope you’re having a great day!

P.S. This morning I published a lengthy analysis of Gavin Newsom’s threats to redraw California’s Congressional District lines. I thought I would draw your attention to a column today in the Los Angeles Times from Mark Barabak where he refers to Newsom’s proposal as All hat and no cattle.
